Symphony - A Flat Classroom Project

Objectives: To collaborate from different parts of the world on music/audio using Web 2.0 and other tools with the aim of creating original soundscapes for use as stand-alone pieces or as accompaniment to other multimedia.

Timeline: This first project will culminate in possible performances at the Flat Classroom Conference in Qatar, January 2009. Therefore items need to be completed by the middle of January.

Tools: Online Studio: http://kompoz.com, Audacity or any other preferred local audio sequencing application.

Method: Upload incomplete parts that will be used in a Symphony Mix. All of the following are possible contributions.

Text Based (PDF): Lyrics, Chord Charts, Spoken texts
Rhythm Based: Percussion grooves, rhythmic loops and riffs
Melody Based: Vocals, lead instrumentals
Backing Based: Harmonic pads, background vocals, string or wind sections
Ambient Based: Environmental sounds, sound effects, synthetic textures
Have we missed anything?
All parts will be referenced to an initial sync track that places all events in time, and interim mixdowns will be posted regularly online.

An example of the making of an inspiring world project called "One World, One Voice" may be viewed here: http://fr.youtube.com/watch?v=dbFPRnxhoHo - this is a twelve part series and reinforces the "Live Aid" and "We Are the World" projects from the 1980's. Here the values are equality, diversity and environment.

Communication: Participants will join the Flat Classroom Ning at http://flatclassroomproject.ning.com/ and then the Symphony Group at http://flatclassroomproject.ning.com/group/symphony
